The Youth Facilitator in the Youth Alternative Program (YAP) provides direct delivery of services and supports for crime prevention through weekly skill-based workshops using the Botvin Life Skills Program Curriculum as well as the Overcoming Obstacles Curriculum. Restart (Re-Entering Society Through Active Responsible Thinking) and RESET workshop goals teach youth between the ages of 12-24 who are at risk of or currently involved in the justice system, communication, interpersonal and life skills through a group facilitation model. The Youth Facilitator also offers one-on-one support to participants who may require individual support services. The ideal candidate will be skilled in behavior management, group facilitation and adapting curriculum to meet the diverse learning needs of the youth.

The Youth Worker supports the health and wellbeing of the youth in Therapeutic Foster Care. Time will be dedicated to establishing a relationship with each youth and support positive youth development opportunities including recreational and cultural outings. The Youth Worker will also focus their time on assisting caregivers with transport to visits, spend 1 to 1 time with youth when caregivers are in training or attending support groups, potentially serving as a formal respite option. They will engage the youth in activities that facilitate skill development, educational goals and support the plan with respect to permanency and transition. The Youth Worker may serve as an immediate relief option when needed. This role will require some evening work to meet the needs of the program. 

Some of the key responsibilities of this role include:
  • Educating and supporting youth to increase skills that promote greater self-efficacy.
  • Creating a learning environment that ensures the success and safety of the youth.
  • Supporting positive youth development opportunities and providing assistance to caregivers.
  • Providing intervention and support services, advocacy and practical assistance to clients.

The successful candidate will have:
  • A degree or diploma in Human Services or similar field.
  • Experience in facilitating groups in the community, classroom, and justice settings (preferably with youth).
  • Experience in curriculum development. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong program planning, time management and administrative abilities.
  • The ability to work from a flexible schedule in order to meet client, program and organizational needs.
  • A reliable vehicle with proof of adequate insurance coverage.  
  • A current (no more than 6 months old) Child Intervention Check and Police Vulnerable Sector Check.

Salary Range: $54,193.00-$60,215.00 annually
